Make Wendy Portillo Accountable of Emotional Abuse
Wendy Portillo says she was teaching consequences for actions by having classmates vote an autistic boy out of the classroom, but apparently she feels the same lesson does not apply to her. See Kristina's post: Should Wendy Portillo Still Be Teaching.
If your answer to should Portillo still be teaching is a "no," sign the petition Make Wendy Portillo Accountable of Emotional Abuse.
This is a one-time pledge that can be fulfilled any time.

i am the mother of a 20 yr. old son with aspergers syndrome. this story breaks my heart-it is the story of my son. the damage caused by emotional targeting and lack of support duplicates many others i know within our community. people involved with educating children-regardless of abilities-need to be taught understanding and compassion. this is another case of a child being left behind. why is wendy potillo still a credentialed teacher? which child will be damaged next by this type of bullying?

Our son now officially has the diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder from his Kindergarten and First Grade elementary school. He was treated much like Alex was. He's now 9 years old and still suffering. He's had 3 inpatient Mental Health stays and finally we are getting referred for trauma therapy.
Autism is certainly NOT the problem. Abuse of the Autistic is.

Palm Beach District Schools need to properly train their teachers or provide proper co-teachers in an inclusive setting.

I have two autistic great newphews who's mother is my niece.. she has made me aware of all the problems a child goes through, and the parents too... in trying to give their children the best life possible... when someone like Wendy Portillo comes along and forms a roadblock, that road block should not only be taken down, it should be totally destroyed

Wendy Portillo needs to experience the consequences of the standards to which she holds the most challenged among us.

What a pathetic excuse for a teacher. She must be made accountable and kept away from children.
Beverly Teter @ 01:27PM PT Feb 10
This woman should never be allowed to teach again.

My first grade teacher said I was "retarded" and physically abused me. My second grade teacher led the class in taunting chants against me. Why? Because I was emotionally fragile, withdrawn and poor. This impacted me for my entire life. I remember. It only takes one second to change the life of a child forever.
Christine Herbert @ 12:02PM PT Feb 09
Its disgusting what this woman did. Obviously she didn't want to put any effort into helping this child.
If he was such a problem she should have called Alex's mother herself or walked down to the principal's office to tell him to do his JOB!
I blame the principal, Ms Protillo, and anyone else who knew what was going on. Hopefully Ms Barton will be more proactive in making sure he gets what he needs

I have a child with autism. And I think this is by far the worse thing I have ever heard of!! The teacher needs to be fired A.S.A.P.
