Autism

Say no to bad science in autism!

Autism is a condition known very well by the sceptic community, as several claims of benefits has been made for treatments directed toward autistic people while they have had little to no scientific documentation. These treatments and their associated hypotheses have been tearing the autism community into fractions because of their controversy, subjected autistics to treatments with potentially damaging or unknown side-effects, and inflicted financial burdens on families who have invested in treatments with no scientifically proven benefit.

We, the undersigned, will make a stand against those who are advocating treatments and hypotheses, that are not based on good science, to autism parents and autistic individuals who may very well be unable to examine these things critically.

I've written quite a number of blogentries about Autism quackery, to show, that you don't necessarily need to be a medical expert and a scientist to debunk that nonsense.
Common sense and critical thinking is all it takes, and luckily that can also be learned.

    Pledge fulfilled Feb 18!

When will people start to remmeber the child and forget the fad treatment crap! As adults we have to speak up for them, as a child I could of so easly of been medicated if I was noticed, maybe I was lucky no one over cared, as a adult I choose not to medicate, children have rights to and are not experiments!

I agree that things just can't be thrown out there but everyone is trying to pin down what's going on out there.  Experimental science is pretty much normal when trying to decide what's going to happen.

I think it's more about educating parents with autistic children that they shouldn't medicate their children.  They will be autistic with meds or not.  Just accept them and learn who they are, encourage your children with praise and reinforce positive though.
