Sign the AAPD Petition for Health Care Reform
To ensure quality of life and civil rights to individuals requiring long term care, the American Association of People with Disabilities has started a Petition for Health Care Reform that Meets the Needs of Individuals with Disabilities and Chronic Health Conditions and their Families
This petition "call[s] on President Obama and the bipartisan leadership in Congress to work together to enact health care reform legislation in this Congress that truly meets the needs of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions and their families. The more than 50 million Americans with disabilities have waited long enough for a health care system that includes both quality, affordable acute care and consumer-directed long-term services and supports."
Take Action!
This is a one-time pledge that can be fulfilled any time.

I have an autistic boy who is a light in our life and made our life better and better every single day. We love him and we want the best for him.

Many years ago, in 1979, I lived with my husband and young daughter in what was then West Germany. I lived there on a Visa, not a citizen. However, when I needed health care, I received it simply because I was a human being. Also, why are for profit health care providers serving non-profit hospitals? There seems to be a bit of a moral issue here in terms of the worth of human life. It is no wonder this planet seems to be in a spiritual crisis.

I am looking for every possible option to persuade our lawmakers to stand up for the public option in health care insurance reform. it is critical that this happen NOW. We cannot give this away.

People with special needs often requuire the services of what now is still referred to as alternative treatments (acupuncture, massage, warm water therapy, chiropractic, yoga, etc). When these interventions make a big difference in a person's health, function & well-being, they should be included in their care plan & paid for by their insurance. People, especially elders with chronic illness & anyone with a disability cannot afford to receive these most needed services if they have to pay out of pocket from a fixed income. We need this change as part of health care reform!

Everything has been said now let us see some action from our President. Let him go into one of these homes and see what is going on and what is needed. Mental health of any kind is always pushed aside, well now maybe our new President will really do something other than speak about it.

I
I work with autistic students, grades K-2nd in a regular elementary school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. These children have a better change for normalcy and inclusion in society with early intervention programs and then follow up through graduation. We need more funding to keep the quality of their education at a level that supports their needs.
