Monday Autism News Potpourri
Published May 04, 2009 @ 09:13AM PT
1. Community Living: I posted a while ago on community options to meet support needs. There are some more (similar but different) ideas (and concerns) in the article Adults with autism seek help, guidance (which, despite the name, is actually mostly about some ideas for community living).
2. Movie Going: Remember the movie Adam, and a long-ago interview here with Jason Ross who consulted on Adam? Looks like Fox Searchlight has picked up the movie--perhaps those of us who couldn't travel to Sundance will have a chance to see Adam on the big screen now? I really hope so 'cause a (non-captioned) trailer is here and it looks really good!
3. Economic Tanking: These economic impacts on autism services in the UK sound pretty much the same as here in the U.S. Unfortunately. Why is it that services to small groups who need help most get cut before services to large groups that need help least? How do we make our concerns better heard?
4. Change Making: I've had more autism-related work than I can well manage the past week--public testimony during an all day autism event at my state capital, preparing a 30 minute presentation for the IACC, working on some pretty major projects in other areas... It's made this roundup of news items from last week a little light, but hopefully I'll make up for that if I can get a moment to actually report back on Things Accomplished and Things Yet to Do. We all have a lot of work behind us and ahead of us in order to see real improvement to our lives. All of you who do the good work to make change for social justice, quality of life, education, it does matter. From one week to the next it may not look like we got very far, but look from one year to the next, or one decade, or more. We're getting there. We will get there. Keep it up.

Thanks, I'm replacing the link in the main article with this one.
